Learn To Row / Sweep Print E-mail

The MRRA Learn-To-Sweep program has openings for anyone 18 or older who wants to learn how to row in a team-oriented and low-pressure learning environment. The program runs for 6 week sessions beginning on Mondays in June and meets twice per week, Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00pm sharp to 8:00pm. Weather permitting, sessions are conducted on the water with Coach providing instruction from a launch.

We love coxswains. If you are a college student with some coxswain experience and would like to improve your skills under the direction of professional coaching in a low-stress beginner boat, this program is for you.In this program, the student will learn the very basics of rowing, including basic safety precautions, terminology of the sport and the essential mechanics of the art of rowing. You'll spend most of each session on the water in a relaxed learning environment that will give you a good foundation about the sport, and a great low-impact aerobic workout. For those inclined to continue rowing after LTSWEEP, the MRRA also offers Masters Sweep for the duration of the summer and into the fall racing season.

About Sweep Rowing

Sweep is the act of rowing with a single oar per person in a multi-person boat. In our popular Learn To Sweep 6-week session, participants will learn to row an "eight" in a boat with a coxswain, building on technique and teamwork to achieve the balance and speed that is the essence of the sport.
