Smackdown - Cancelled: BOAT WASH IS ON for Nov 10th Print E-mail
Due to the storm, the docks were pulled far up the tarmac and there is no chance to get the UML front loader to the boathouse to push the docks back before the Smackdown this weekend.
Additonally, the flow rate is high and the debris floating down the river is large and numerous.
Therefore, we regret that the Smackdown (also known as Row Down) must be cancelled this year.

Please plan to be at the boathouse at 9am on Saturday November 10th for our annual Boat Wash and to pull the remaining docks up to the winter storage spot. Your support at the boatwash is greatly appreciated since we need to put the boats away in good condition for the winter.

Any further postings for rowing advisories during the week will be posted by the Boatcaptain.

November Boathouse Activities Print E-mail

Bellegarde Boathouse Smackdown Saturday November 3rd at 8am

Here is the way this works:  UML, LHS, MRRA and some other programs along our river (Westford, Independence, maybe some from Greater Lawrence) are invited to put together boats to compete in a 20K race. So plan on rowing your own boat, a club boat, or put together a double or a quad or a sweep boat and put this into the reservation book.  For sweep boats, you will need to coordinate with UML and LHS to find out what boats are available for us to use this day.

Plan to be at the Finish Line of the 2K/TRR course no later than 8am on Saturday November 3rd.  Race up river to and around the Tyngsboro bridge and back to the boathouse. Finish line is the boathouse.

Plan to bring something for the potluck breakfast at the boathouse afterwards.  This has been a great time in the past few years and tremendous fun to see all those boats stretched out along the river.

Docks Removed and Boat Wash Saturday November 10th at 8-9am

Please keep in mind that the date for pulling the docks might change if it looks like the weather is turning and snow is forecasted, we might send out an SOS looking for volunteers to help with pulling docks before this date.  All members are expected to help this day with the docks or boatwash / boat bay cleaning.  We want to leave things nice and tidy over the winter!!

MRRA Notices from September monthly meeting Print E-mail

Important information from MRRA September 11 monthly meeting:

One item from the Boathouse user group meeting is that on Tues and Thurs mornings both UML and LHS have morning practice at 5:30am.
So on Tues-Thurs it is going to be very busy at the boathouse and on the docks.
It is critical that all rowers get on and off the docks within 90 seconds.  We may also need to use the inside of the docks for launch/return.
Remember to be wearing white lights facing the stern and the bow lights on the bow when launching in the dark, or if the evening, when it will be dark while you are on the water.

TRR Notice:   Entry deadline for MRRA members is midnight on Monday, September 17.   Registration will not accept any late entries from MRRA members.   So if you plan to race, get your entry submitted to Regatta Central this week.

MRRA Men's pair at Pan AM Trials Print E-mail

pornell_panamMRRA men’s pair, Mike Poreba and Rich Connell, did an outstanding job at the Pan Am Trials.

They had an extremely good showing at the Trials, starting off a bit slow in the heats and gathering tremendous momentum as the Trials progressed.  They posted the fastest time in the reps while also posting their best time yet of 6: 49.

In the finals race, which was streamed live, Oklahoma City Training Center boat shot out in the lead and the guys fought it out with the OKCTC B for second place.  While OKCTC A stayed in the lead, our guys fought bravely as it turned into a 3 boat brawl for second place.  In the end, our guys finished fourth, having posted yet another personal best time of 6:47!

These guys truly represented MRRA well and deserve recognition for their outstanding job.  And as Vee said, "I couldn’t be more proud to be called their coach!"

Go to usrowing.org for all of the results, etc.
