Sculling

4x 200
Quadruple scull, or "4x". Four rowers, two oars each.

2x 200
Double scull, or "2x". Two rowers, two oars each.

Sculling is the act of rowing with two oars. MRRA offers two sessions of 12 classes each, of Learn To Scull programs targeted at those new to the sport or those with some sweep experience looking to move to sculling boats. Participants are able to graduate from multi-seat boats ("quads" and "doubles") to stable "singles" and eventually finer single shells. At the end of the program, participants may take the "Boat Captain's Test" which allows them to use club equipment for independent rowing. Many participants continue on to MRRA membership at a reduced rate for the remainder of the rowing season.

Learn To Scull

Program code: LTSCULL1 or LTSCULL2

Program cost: $325.00

LTSCULL1 and LTSCULL2 are programs which meet for 12 classes that introduces participants to basic sculling technique, boathouse procedures and safety concerns. Participants will be guided by a head coach supported by MRRA volunteers. Equipment used will include rowing ergometers, multi-seat boats and stable Zephyr training boats. A safety launch is provided at all times boats are on the water. An average fitness level, and a high rate of attendance, is expected of all participants.
